For example, if you have ordered something from an online store and it says that they have to deliver the product to you within 5 days, but the 10th day has passed, no one has contacted you, they do not answer your emails, they do not pick up the phone, but pay with a card and feel powerless.

It is perfectly normal when a customer does not know what is happening with his product to be unhappy. In principle, communication with the client is the responsibility of the Project Manager and with good time management, time can be spent on communication with anyone interested.

I would recommend that you do not give up on the client, but discuss with them at the beginning that we will hold meetings with them at a certain interval of time, or with a specific result, we will do our best to meet their expectations and if necessary we will hire someone else to have extra time with this client. But I don’t think it will be necessary at the moment.

In addition to periodic communication with customers, there should be regular communication with management. To review the work is done, what is left, how fast I am moving, is there a need for adjustments, if so, what and why. In this way, all parties will be aware of the work that is being done and there will be no misunderstandings about who did what or did not do what.

Schedule and plans

A schedule is needed, of course, and it is best if it can be strictly adhered to so that there is no lag. As for a good schedule, the project manager must be aware of the resources and the team at his disposal. And if a delay occurs, effective and immediate corrective action must be taken. For example, if programmers can’t get the job done, hire more. As for these measures, I will rely on the support and understanding of senior management.

When the manager means that he has support in the face of management, when necessary he will seek help in time, not to wait because he does not want to disappoint management or because he is worried.

There must be a constant cycle of communication between the project manager and the clients, between him and his team, between him and the management.

Lack of communication can destroy many things. Communication is what makes a team strong.

Communication with programmers

The project manager does not have the task to communicate only with the programmers, he must have a connection with both the clients and his superiors. So that everyone knows what is happening and how far things are.

Good project managers do not overwhelm their team with complicated spreadsheets, long checklists, and boards. Instead, they put their teams in front and center. They develop clear, focused plans that encourage their teams to reach their full potential.

They cut red tape and direct their teams on a clear path to the ultimate goal. People need to be encouraged, motivated, not instilled with fear or insult. You need to earn their respect by leading them, not by commanding them.

When the team is at the center, has a focused and clear plan, the ultimate goal seems clearer and more achievable. By applying the skills of coaching and influence there will be a more independent, more capable, motivated, and confident team. And things will happen easier and faster. A team is as good as its leader.

Regarding the programmers, I suggest not to make cuts, they are an extremely important resource for the projects and I think that with a little more faith in them, motivation, the right approach, and without unnecessary burdensome bureaucracy, they will do very well and the work will go.
